AEA 2008: Group Selects Three For Lifetime Achievement Awards

Tom Sternig, Paul Brenner, And Bruce Baxter Honored Thursday

With a membership of more than 1,300 companies from around the world, this year’s AEA International Convention & Trade Show in the nation’s capital truly is an international affair. The AEA’s membership spans 35 countries, with members from 15 of those countries attending this year’s convention in Washington, DC.

"As we gather in our nation’s capital this year for the annual convention and trade show, it is fitting that, in recognizing AEA’s membership reaches around the globe, our recipients of the AEA Lifetime Achievement Award are three international members being recognized for their work in growing the organization beyond American soil," said Paula Derks, president of AEA.

This year, three individuals each will be honored with the AEA Lifetime Achievement Award during the convention’s Official Opening Ceremonies Thursday, in the Woodrow Wilson Ballroom at the Gaylord National Resort.

This year’s recipients of the AEA Lifetime Achievement Award -- Tom Sternig from the Canada region; Paul Brenner from the Europe region; and Bruce Baxter from the Australia/South Pacific region (shown below, left to right) -- all were instrumental in the tremendous international growth of the AEA.

Past recipients of the AEA Lifetime Achievement Award are:

  • Robert Kauffmann, founder of Electronics
  • Edward King Jr., founder of King Radio
  • George Lewison, aviation engineer/author
  • Gary Burrell, co-founder of Garmin
  • Jack Gross, president of Navair Ltd.
  • John Winter, founder of Mid-Continent Instruments
  • Monte Mitchell, past president of the AEA

The Aircraft Electronics Association board of directors gave its first AEA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001, and this is the first year in which more than one individual is receiving the award.
