Will Be Used In Offshore, SAR Operations
Sikorsky Aircraft announced Friday CHC Helicopter Corp. has
signed a contract for 12 S-92 helicopters. The new helicopters will
be used primarily to fulfill offshore transportation requirements
in all corners of the world, but may also be used in the commercial
Search and Rescue (SAR) role.
"CHC has had success with Sikorsky helicopters and just recently
flew the maiden mission of a dedicated-Search and Rescue S-92
helicopter, on behalf of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency," said
Sylvain Allard, President and CEO of CHC. "We are delighted to
continue our strong relationship by placing this multiple S-92
helicopter order. These aircraft will be used around the globe in
CHC's expanding marketplace."
CHC won the interim contract to supply aircraft to the MCA from
2007 to 2012.
"The S-92 helicopter is a tough aircraft designed to handle
tough missions, and Sikorsky is proud to bring this reliable and
safe aircraft to CHC," said Stephen B. Estill, Sikorsky Vice
President and Chief Marketing Officer.
Delivery of the S-92 helicopters is expected to begin in
2009.
The S-92 has established a leading position in the offshore oil
industry and fills a variety of other missions including search and
rescue, VIP and head of state transport. It was the world's first
helicopter certified to the latest and most rigorous safety
standards of both the US Federal Aviation Administration and the
European Aviation Safety Agency/Joint Aviation Authorities.
Of the approximately 38 aircraft now in service, about half are
flying 100 or more hours per month.
