Classic Aero-TV: Sandel, APG Aid The UN--Int’l Terrain Avoidance for Heli-Ops

Impressive International Deal Provides Much-Needed Protection For Int'l Helicopter Operations

ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief Jim Campbell meets with Jerry Henry of Sandel Avionics at the 2013 NBAA convention.

Jim starts the interview with his standard question which is, “What’s going on at Sandel?” The response to this question is, “quite a bit,” and it’s significant in the international market. Sandel avionics has joined with a company named Aviation Partners Group, also known as APG.

An APG representative explained that there is a large international market for helicopter terrain avoidance electronics, and Sandel is the product of choice.

APG handles the marketing and installation of the terrain avoidance product for many nations including those of the U.N. U.N. helicopters are required to have terrain avoidance devices. The U.N. relies heavily on Russian built helicopters, and the terrain avoidance systems are being installed in the Russian built Mi-8, Mi-18, and the large Mi-26 helicopters. This video includes simulations showing the systems in operation and actual Russian helicopters in-flight using the system.
