FAA NOTAM For Sikorsky Airport Stops Commercial Flight

Interim Airport Manager Says Operations Are Largely Normal

The FAA has issued a NOTAM that would appear to affect all commercial flights at Sikorsky Memorial Airport in Stratford, CT.

The Connecticut Post reports that the NOTAM appears to ban all commercial flights at the airport. However, interim airport manager Kurt Sendlein told the paper that flight service is being maintained "for the most part. This pertains to a specific category of service."

The NOTAM, issued Monday, could be interpreted as banning all commercial operations, according to the Facebook page of the Friends of Sikorsky Airport. Speaking for the group, David Daile said that would include all charter and air taxi services.

However, Sendlein said that the group has "misstated" the purpose of the NOTAM.

Runway 6-24 at the airport was recently reopened after a two-year project that added a 300-foot EMAS at the east end of the runway. Sikorsky saw its first commercial service in 16 years last year when Tailwind Air began commuter service between Stratford and the 23rd Street Pier in Manhattan using amphibious aircraft.

The Friends group said it was investigating the true nature of the NOTAM.
