Plug-In Component Replaces Older ADIs
Sandel Avionics told ANN Wednesday the Vista, CA-based avionics
manufacturer has met FAA standards for Technical Standard Order
(TSO) approval of its SA4550 Primary Attitude Display, confirming
that the system has achieved all initial performance goals prior to
receiving FAA certification.
Sandel says the SA4550 is ideal for retrofit installation in
such aircraft as Cessna Citations, Lear 20-series and other jets
and turboprops with 4-ATI or 5-ATI panel displays. The modular,
LED-backlit SA4550 offers a technology upgrade for aircraft with
older Sperry and Collins electromechanical ADI displays.
Paired with the already-certified Sandel SN4500 Primary
Navigation Display, the SA4550 provides operators with a complete
Primary Flight Display solution.
By issuing this TSO, the FAA has confirmed that avionics
dealers, installation centers and aircraft operators are legally
entitled to recommend and use the SA4550 for all qualifying
turbine- and piston-powered aircraft. Dealer orders are currently
being accepted for initial versions of SA4550 production units.
"Completing
the TSO for this revolutionary product takes us another step closer
to the day when corporate jet operators will no longer be forced to
choose between their old, unreliable ADIs or a full-panel
replacement that's prohibitively expensive," said Sandel CEO Gerry
Block. "Incorporating incredible color and brightness, twice the
resolution of many 'glass cockpits', and an innovative
plug-compatible installation architecture, the SA4550 truly sets a
new standard in turbine avionics retrofit."
Featuring Sandel's PhlatLight display technology, the new LED
(light-emitting diode)-backlit SA4550 offers an easy-to-read
display; long operating life; full complement of ADI features;
intuitive interface; and built-in I/O. The introductory retail
price is $20,500.
