TSO Approval Granted For Universal Avionics SCN 1001 / 1101

New And Enhanced Features Improve Operational Efficiency And Support Special Mission Operations

The FAA has granted Technical Standard Order (TSO) approval for Universal Avionics SBAS-Flight Management System / Multi-Missions Management System (FMS / MMMS) Software Control Number (SCN) 1001 / 1101. This major software release includes several new and enhanced features to improve operational efficiency and support special mission operations.

Among the enhanced features of SCN 1001 / 1101 is an improved user interface for activation and operation of search patterns. It also includes implementation of Airdrop for the MMMS. An optional module, Airdrop calculates an Air Release Point (ARP), and provides guidance and steering position offset where the delivery should exit the aircraft for a landing at the desired drop zone. SCN 1001 / 1101 also includes another optional module, FlexPerf Trip Performance. FlexPerf provides advanced fuel saving predictions for aircraft performance in Climb, Cruise and Descent phases of flight.

Additional new features of SCN 1001 / 1101 include:

  • Flight Plan Wind upload from the UniLink UL-800 / 801 Communications Management Unit (CMU)
  • Maximum Indicated Airspeed (VMAX) display function
  • Improved Selected Crosstrack (SXTK) function with offset waypoints created and displayed
  • Continuous updates for SBAS Level of Service (LOS)
  • Direct To Operations (DTO) function that allows the pilot to choose the turn direction
  • Magnetic Variation tables loaded with Navigation Database updated when required

“We are excited to bring these new FMS features to our customer base,” said Robert Clare, Universal Avionics Director of Sales. “We continue to look at ways to adapt our products to fit our customer needs,” he added.

The SBAS-FMS combines the benefits of advanced programming; compact, lightweight packaging and installation flexibility. Three basic models – the UNS-1Ew, UNS-1Fw and UNS-1Lw – plus a specially-packaged UNS-1Espw with reduced depth, provide operators the ability to select the optimum system to match their aircraft equipment interfaces. The MMMS incorporates the advanced technology, system design, features and capabilities included in the SBAS-FMS. In addition to these capabilities, the MMMS includes additional interfaces and search pattern capabilities for special missions operators.
