Thieves Steal Powered Parachute's Power

Made Off With A Rotax Engine, Gauges

Apparently, the thieves knew exactly what they wanted. Authorities in Spartanburg County SC say that someone made off with a Rotax 503 engine and its gauges from a powered parachute stored in a hangar in Campobello, SC.

The theft report provided to ANN by the Spartansburg Sheriff's in an e-mail indicates that the engine had a pusher prop and "B" gearbox. The theft was reported to the sheriff's office February 23rd, and reportedly took place sometime in the past several days.

The police report indicates that the thieves "took great care" in removing the engine and its gauges. The owner told the sheriff's office that the combination of engine, gearbox, and gauges is "quite unique." A sheriff's office spokesman said that they currently have no leads in the case, and ask anyone with information on the case to contact the Sheriff's Office crime stoppers at 1.888.CRIME.SC.
