AD: Airbus Airplanes

AD NUMBER: 2018-02-11

PRODUCT: Certain Airbus Model A330- 301, -321, -322 and -342 airplanes.

ACTION: Final rule; request for comments.

SUMMARY:  This AD requires contacting the FAA to obtain instructions for addressing the unsafe condition on these products, and doing the actions specified in those instructions.

This AD was prompted by a report of cracking in the top skin of the horizontal stabilizer (HS) center box (CB) of an airplane in pre-modification 41330 configuration.

DATES: This AD becomes effective February 6, 2018. Comments must be received by March 8, 2018.

COST: Currently, there are no affected U.S.-registered airplanes. This AD requires contacting the FAA to obtain instructions for addressing the unsafe condition, and doing the actions specified in those instructions. Based on the actions specified in the MCAI AD, the cost of compliance for an affected airplane that is placed on the U.S. Register in the future is estimated as follows:

  • High frequency eddy current inspection 1 work-hour × $85 per hour = $85
  • Reporting 1 work-hour × $85 per hour = $85
