Vortex Generator Kits Approved For Installation on Aviat Husky

Manufacturer Claims Lower Stall Speed, Shorter Takeoffs And Landings

Vortex generator kits have received FAA STC approval at Micro AeroDynamics and are ready for shipment and installation on the Aviat Husky models A-1, A-1A, and A-1B, as well as the newer A-1C-180 and A-1C-200. The company says the kits, which can be installed in one day, offer reduced stall speed, improved aileron response, and a shorter takeoff and landing roll.

Vortex generators keep the boundary layer attached to the flying surfaces, providing better control, even at stall speeds. They improve slow flight characteristics and have no impact on cruise speed settings. They do not collect ice. The VGs are 1.5 inches long and stand 3/8-inch above the surface.

Each kit consists of 88 aluminum vortex generators that are mounted just aft of the leading edge of the wing and an additional 40 VGs that are attached to the underside of the horizontal stabilizer. Also included in the kits are drawings and instructions, installation tools and templates, spares, and adhesive.
