Aviation Campaign News: Another Misspelled Banner, Gun Found On Romney Plane

Firearm Belonged To A Secret Service Member Protecting The GOP Nominee

A couple of items have cropped up from the campaign trail with an aviation slant, and one seems to be a reprise of a theme from over the weekend.

An anti-Romney banner that was reportedly created to be flown near the GOP convention site in Tampa had a big grammatical error. The Washington Examiner reports that Democratic National Committee spokesman Bran Woodhouse tweeted a picture of what he described as "our plane" towing the anti-GOP banner. The banner read "Romney-Ryan-Akin: Too Extreme For Woman."

It didn't specify which woman.

It was the second such airborne spelling error this month for the Democrats, or at least their banner-towing contractors. The previous incident occurred over a Romney rally in Ohio over the weekend with a banner sponsored by moveon.org.

Meanwhile, on the Romney campaign plane, a journalist found a handgun in the lavatory on a flight from Tampa to Indianapolis, where the GOP nominee was making a speech before returning to the convention. CBS News reports that the firearm belonged to a member of the Secret Service detail providing security for Governor Romney during the campaign. In a statement, Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan said "We are aware of the incident. We take the care and custody of our equipment, especially firearms, very seriously. We will deal with this matter internally and in an appropriate manner."
