Bringing Down The Costs Of Vertical Flight

Vertical Aviation Brings Down Cost Of Hummingbird

Vertical Aviation Technologies of Sanford (FL) says it's made a major product improvement program aimed at reducing operating costs and product complexity for Hummingbird helicopter customers worldwide. The Hummingbird 260L kit price now includes the zero time 260 H.P. Lycoming engine, ready for installation. "With development costs behind us we are now ready to move forward at the current price of $170,000 and this includes the engine", explains Brad Clark, President of Vertical Aviation Technologies. "This is a very complete kit, with no hidden costs, and we were able to secure very favorable pricing for the power plant."

An additional development at Vertical Aviation Technologies is a builder assistance program and an extended warranty on the Hummingbird kit. Vertical Aviation Technologies warrants materials and workmanship to the original owner for one year (starting at time of airworthiness issuance) or 1000 flight hours, whichever comes first. The Hummingbird is the only kit helicopter offered with any warranty due in part to the superior design and quality of parts. "It is important to note that the Hummingbird was designed to be a certified helicopter, so this is a real advantage over conventional experimental kits", explains Brad Clark. "This helicopter design went through stringent FAA certification, engineering, endurance testing, and has established a proven history over the years with no inherent problems with the design."

The Hummingbird was introduced in 1991 and is the only four place kit helicopter available worldwide. Simple in design and easy to assemble in as little as 400 hours, this concept of selling in kit form reduces the acquisition costs making the four passenger helicopter affordable for private, government, and commercial use. The Hummingbird provides a useful load of 900 lbs, range of 375 miles and can be configured for many missions.
