Weather A Focus In Castle Rock, CO Accident

Pilot Seriously Injured When Glasair Went Down Monday

The pilot of a Glasair homebuilt airplane was reported to be in "serious but stable" condition following an accident Monday night after striking power lines near Castle Rock, CO and going down in a residential neighborhood.

Residents of the Sapphire Pointe subdivision said that they heard an airplane flying "very low" prior to the accident. An analyst interviewed by 9News in Denver said that the weather conditions had 'for most of the day here in Denver been pretty poor." The analyst said that the pilot was possibly attempting to avoid entering IFR conditions during the flight.

A resident was first on the scene of the accident and called 911. She said she stayed with the pilot, who was alive but unconscious, until emergency medical personnel arrived. The pilot, a woman, was transported to an area trauma center, according to 9News.

The name of the pilot has not been released. FAA records indicate that the plane is registered to Glasair Aviation and received an airworthiness certificate in 2012.
