Drunk Aeroflot Pilot Terminated From Airline

Pre-Flight Check Showed He Was Slightly Inebriated Prior To Flight

A pilot who was to have been part of a flight crew on an Aeroflot flight was terminated after a pre-flight check determined he had been drinking prior to the flight.

Aeroflot posted a message on Twitter saying "The pilot will be sacked from the company" after his blood-alcohol level was measured at 0.8, or slightly intoxicated.

The Brisbane Times of Australia relays a report from the French news service AFP which said passengers on the flight from the Chinese border city of Blagoveshchensk to Moscow waited nearly 10 hours while a replacement pilot was located. The intoxicated pilot will be forced to pay "all the costs of the delay," according to the airline.

The airline emphasized that the pilot's condition was caught before he boarded the airplane. "We cannot control what a pilot does during his time off," the airline said in a statement.
