It’s Reported That A Cockpit Altercation Occurred On An Air India Flight

According To Reports, CRM Degenerated To Fisticuffs Between The Copilot And Captain

After the sad loss of Germanwings flight 9525 it is unfortunate to see another incident involving inappropriate actions by cockpit crew members. According to reports from various sources, the captain and his copilot were preparing for a flight from Jaipur to Delhi when the event took place.

The accuracy of what actually happened is hard to determine because, for the most part, the reports are coming from unnamed sources. One report taken from the Times of India indicated that the first officer became aggravated when asked to perform certain duties. It is alleged that the first officer attacked the captain.

As if the report of a fight in the cockpit is not enough, it appears the flight departed and flew to its destination with this crew in command. It appears the captain reported the disturbance only after landing at Delhi.

Some reports indicated that air India has not commented on the situation, but others quote the Times of India saying that the airline responded by stating, “…there was an argument between the two and nothing more."

In a CNN report, it was stated that this copilot had a record of arguing with captains before. Their report indicated that issues had been raised before about the attitude and mental health of the copilot.

Whatever the truth is regarding this incident, it’s another black eye for the airline industry.
