Raging Granny Gets Fighter Escort

It doesn't take much to get the fighters launched these days and a recent example sure seems to offer ample testimony. A woman, alternately described as being between 69 and 79 years old, allegedly "threw a fit" on board an American Airlines flight. The event caused flight attendants to fear an attack, so the authorities were brought in.

American Airlines spokesman Tim Wagner claimed that at least one flight attendant was attacked and punched twice.

AAL Flt 2133 carried 126 passengers had just taken off and was enroute to Caracas, Venezuela, when the pilot called for assistance. Fighters escorted the aircraft back to Miami where the elder passenger was eventually released after questioning and allowed to board another flight to Caracas.

FBI spokeswoman Beverly Esselbach later termed the situation as a "misunderstanding."
