While at the Redbird Migration 2014, ANN CEO and Editor-In-Chief, Jim Campbell, met with Redbird’s Roger Sharp, the director of training for Redbird Flight Simulations.
In this part 2 of a 2-part interview, Campbell looked at the flight instructor side of the picture. He asked Sharp about the challenges a new flight instructor faces, and what advice he could provide.
The first part of Sharp’s advice related to the business end of being a flight instructor. He reminded all instructors that personal piloting skills are not what convince students to continue training and to continue with a flight instructor. It’s the instructor’s ability to make the student feel comfortable with the environment and the training curriculum that makes them want to come back. The video carries the subject further and it’s a must watch for flight instructors.
The next part of this discussion dealt with how instructors can progress to the point that they might consider a profession in the training business. This is where Sharp’s experience and background really show up. His answer to this question can provide insight for all flight instructors and can be valuable for students as well. If students come to expect what Sharp describes, the professional flight instructors will stand out like shining stars.
