Events Begin Wednesday With Annual Breakfast
Women attending EAA AirVenture will have a show all their own when WomenVenture takes place on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, with a day-long roster of women-centered events. Women in Aviation, International, the 99s and EAA partner on this event in order to attract more women to the excitement and career possibilities within the aviation community.
“Whether you fly professionally, work in the aviation industry or are just exploring learning to fly for fun, WomenVenture has something to offer you,” says WAI president Dr. Peggy Chabrian. “You’ll meet and mingle with hundreds of other women who share your passion for airplanes.”
WomenVenture kicks off on Wednesday morning with WAI’s annual Connect Breakfast in the EAA Nature Center beginning at 8:00 am. Tickets for $15 per person are required and may be ordered online at wai.org or by calling WAI headquarters at (937) 839-4647. After July 23, tickets may be purchased at WAI’s booth #2041 in Hangar B for $20 each. In addition to a full, hot breakfast the WomenVenture breakfast includes guest speakers and a host of door prizes.
WomenVenture participants will assemble in “Show Center” at 11:00 a.m. for the annual group photo. “We fill Show Center with hundreds of women, all dressed in their WomenVenture t-shirts, for a family photo,” adds Chabrian. “We make quite a statement – and a lot of noise when we’re all assembled! This photo is more than a fun event – it increases the visibility of women throughout the aviation community.”
Following the photo, WomenVenture participants make their way to Theater in the Woods for the WomenVenture Power Lunch. Tickets ($5 per person) are required and may be purchased on site or online (see link below). This year’s featured speaker is Debbie Travis-King who is a B-29 (Fifi) and B-24 (Diamond Lil) pilot. Debbie was the first woman to pilot a B-29 in 70 years when she flew the Commemorative Air Force’s Fifi at AirVenture in 2013.
“Every year, WomenVenture grows in popularity,” says Chabrian. “With the support and camaraderie WomenVenture provides, we have a host of success stories of women who identify WomenVenture as the tipping point in their aviation interest.”
