Remotely Piloted Caravan Airline Begins Expansion Ahead of Commercial Flights.
Automated aircraft modification specialist Reliable Robotics has announced the establishment of its new cargo airline, a point-to-point service the company has hinted at in recent months.
The name has not yet been revealed, as the majority of their focus lies on staying on their regulatory toes as they trailblaze the industry as they go along.
The Part 135 airline subsidiary has installed its initial executives to begin laying groundwork for commercial cargo operations by the end of the year. Reliable now has a wealth of former airline experience, bringing along chief pilots, executives, management.
Reliable sees the shortfall of qualified cargo pilots as a point in their favor, allowing their specially modified, pilotless Cessna Caravans to act as widely distributed, remotely piloted cargo planes.
The ability to activate an aircraft from across the country and fly a leg from the comfort of a remote piloting facility offers management a much more cost-effective network, free of having to base aircraft across the country or put up pilots in costly hotels to sleep away company money.
Pilots could appreciate the home-bound finish to the end of every work day, as well as greater operational tempo. After all, the next leg is just a click away with remote piloting.
“We are working with leading cargo carriers eager to integrate remotely piloted systems into their fleets,” explained Jeff Drees, the new director of cargo strategy for Reliable Robotics and once-CEO of Ameriflight.
“By demonstrating crewed air cargo delivery first, we will build a solid foundation for the transition to remotely operated flights.”
