NBAA Welcomes Peters As DOT Secretary Nominee

Editor's Note -- The following is the unedited statement from the National Business Aviation Association on the naming of Mary Peters as President Bush's nominee for Secretary of Transportation.

The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) today welcomed President Bush's nomination of transportation policy veteran Mary Peters to serve as Department of Transportation Secretary.

The White House announced the nomination today. Peters has been nominated to succeed Norman Mineta, who retired from the job earlier this year.

"Mary Peters is known for her extensive work on transportation issues and her inclusive approach to doing business," said NBAA President and CEO Ed Bolen. "I look forward to working with her and ensuring that she is fully aware of the concerns of business aviation."

Peters served as Administrator for the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) from 2001 - 2005. In that position, she focused on strengthening security and safety, relieving congestion, and improving the nation's highway infrastructure. Before her tenure at the FHWA, Peters spent three years as director of the Arizona Department of Transportation.
