Ryan Int'l "Redefining Industry Standard" With New MHD
While the news from AEA 2003 is perceptibly
upbeat, little of it has been really "new..." until Friday
morning's announcement, from Ryan International, of a novel
Multi-Hazard Display System. According to Ryan, "Conventional
aviation wisdom says it’s best to consolidate all flight
information onto one large display."
Ryan International has a different vision, and is
introducing a new Multi-Hazard Display. This 3ATI is the only
display in the industry dedicated solely to displaying hazard
information.
"The industry is moving toward putting all information on a
single screen. While that’s a lot better than having to scan
lots of dials and gauges, it can be difficult to isolate the most
immediate hazard information in critical situations," said Bruce
Bunevich, Vice President of Sales and Marketing.
"Ryan’s Multi-Hazard Display places essential hazard
information on a dedicated display, offering pilots what they need:
easy-to-read, easy-to-interpret real time information on the most
immediate flight hazard. The result is an increased situational
awareness, and therefore increased safety."
The Multi-Hazard Display is designed for use with the Ryan
9900BX Traffic Advisory System. Ryan is in development with the
manufacturers of other hazard detection avionics to display their
weather and terrain information as well. The display is designed to
show up to three types of hazard information at one time using
multi-view mode technology.
The Ryan Multi-Hazard Display
-
Provides aviation’s only full-color 3ATI dedicated to
hazard information.
- Increases situational awareness by eliminating the clutter
found on MFDs.
- Improves safety by providing pilots with constant, real-time
hazard information.
- Uses a full-color, high-resolution active matrix LCD that is
easy-to-read and easy-to-interpret, reducing pilot fatigue.
- Allows the pilot to switch between primary images by pushing a
single button.
- Displays traffic information in ranges varying from 1 to over
24 miles in several pilot selectable view screens.
- Enables software upgrades through a side connector, eliminating
the need to remove the display from the panel.
- Offers a multi-view mode that, in the future, will display
information from hazard partners simultaneously.
- Is a lightweight, compact, standard-size display that can be
installed easily in most corporate and general aviation aircraft,
fixed wing or rotor wing.

"Ryan’s new Multi-Hazard Display is more than simply a new
product. It’s a new way of thinking about providing hazard
information," said Bunevich.
"Throughout its history, Ryan International has led the way
with new technologies and offering new paradigms for the industry.
Our new Multi-Hazard Display is one more step along that journey of
innovation."
Ryan International is a Columbus-Ohio based corporation that
produces innovative avionics for general, commercial and military
aircraft, both fixed and rotor wing. Ryan continues to build on its
tradition of leadership in airborne safety, from the introduction
of the first non-radar based weather avoidance technology to
traffic avoidance systems to a Multi-Hazard Display.
