Electronic Chart Reader Selected For Super Tucano Test Pilots

Embraer Goes With FX8 Reader For Test And Ferry Flights

Embraer said Thursday it has selected the SOLIDFX FX8 Aviation Information System for the test and ferry pilots of its Super Tucano aircraft. The FX8 was selected because of its ability to easily manage Jeppesen terminal charts and Embraer company in-flight documents. Its compact size and display readable in any lighting situation make it an ideal solution for the demanding in-cockpit environment of this aircraft.

Mozart Marques Louzada, Jr., Embraer's Chief Test Pilot said, "The FX8 is the best choice for use in our military aircraft. Its readability is fantastic -- even in the intense sun of the Super Tucano's bubble canopy. In fact, none of the tablet or pad devices with an LCD display could come close to the FX8. At night, using a cockpit reading light, the FX8 is like reading paper. The FX8 provides a much better experience than the bright and distracting illumination from a backlit EFB display."

Embraer's pilots found the FX8 to be an ideal way to easily organize their Jeppesen approach plates as well as take notes on Embraer's own PDF company documents -- like the flight test order -- thus eliminating almost all paper in the cockpit. "This really makes the FX8 much more efficient and productive than other systems," noted Louzada.

"Embraer gave the FX8 a thorough workout," said Jeff McDonald, SOLIDFX's Chief Technology Officer. "And we are thrilled that the FX8 passed their tests for use in the Super Tucano."
