Will Present Young Aviators Program At Most Stops During 2019 Airshow Season
The Phillips 66 Aerostars aren't your typical pilots. And we're not just talking about their ability to dazzle crowds with barrel rolls, bomb bursts, and Vic rolls. What truly separates these pilots is the amount of time they spend on the ground talking to the next generation of aviation professionals.
The Phillips 66 Aerostars take their Young Aviators program on the road and into the sky at almost every stop on their annual airshow tour. The program is meant to educate young aviation enthusiasts on all of the career possibilities waiting for them in the aviation industry.
"It's a great time for kids to become involved in aviation," says Phillips 66 Aerostar Harvey Meek. "And that's not just in the cockpit. The industry needs administrators, maintenance technicians, electronics technicians, and engineers. The sky really is the limit."
The team leverages their visibility at airshows to discuss the potential of a life in aviation with any young person who will listen.
"We do our best to meet with school-aged kids wherever we visit. We feel obligated to let them know there's a broad spectrum of jobs available. It's not just about becoming a pilot," says Gerry Molidor, the newest member of the Phillips 66 Aerostars. "Of course, when we do find a young pilot, we're more than happy to talk about their time in the sky. But we emphasize that time on the ground — maintenance time — is just as important. Maybe even more important, since it's what keeps you safely flying."
