Airborne 11.09.18: Global 7500 Cert, 737 MAX Emergency AD, V1 'Flying Bomb'

Also: Trig European Office, Sonoma Jet Center, Sikorsky Award, Airbus A330-800 Flies

The FAA has certified the Bombardier Global 7500. It will enter  into-service later this year.

Earlier this year, the aircraft demonstrated the expansion of its advertised maximum range to 7,700 nautical miles- - 300 nautical miles further than they had initially projected. It has exceeded takeoff and landing performance, making challenging airports such as Chicago Executive, and Eagle County, Colorado, easier to maneuver in adverse weather conditions. The FAA, after a recent Lion Air crash that took the loves of all on board, has issued an emergency AD for Boeing 787 MAX-8 and MAX-9 airplanes following analysis performed by Boeing showing that if an erroneously high single angle of attack (AOA) sensor input is received by the flight control system, there is a potential for repeated nose-down trim commands of the horizontal stabilizer. The FAA issued this AD to address this potential resulting nose-down trim, which could cause the flight crew to have difficulty controlling the airplane, and lead to excessive nose-down attitude, significant altitude loss, and possible impact with terrain. The remains of a German V1 "flying bomb" that was shot down during WWII have been unearthed by an archeological team working on a site near Ashford on Kent, England. It was one of almost 10,000 that were launched towards England from Germany in the latter stages of the war. The team unearthed several key metal parts of the V1. Allied fighter aircraft and anti-aircraft artillery had become adept at shooting down the so-called "buzz bombs" in flight, and this particular bomb was one that was intercepted before it reached its target. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
