Largest Aviation Safety Conference Next Month

Yes, You May Attend

Australia’s largest-ever air safety conference is to be held next month with thousands of people from the aviation industry set to take part.

On-line conference to set aviation record

Almost every member of the aviation industry is being given the chance to join the important conference either in person or via a live, interactive internet video feed. The interactive internet broadcast of the safety summit will take the discussions into hangars, aircraft offices and homes across the nation.

Under examination during the Civil Aviation Safety Authority conference is a suite of proposed new air safety rules covering flying operations, flying training and flight crew licensing. These rules will set the safety framework for key areas of Australian aviation for the first part of this Century. The new rules are scheduled to go before Federal Parliament at the end of this year.

Hundreds of pilots, airline managers, aircraft owners, flying instructors and testing officers will take part in person in discussions on the new rules at the Sydney Convention Centre from 3 – 5 March. Thousands of others from capital cities, regional centres and rural areas will watch, listen, ask questions and make comments in real time using the internet feed.

To join the interactive internet sessions people will simply be asked to register, obtaining the required web address and access instructions. (The minimum technical requirement will be a 56K modem.)

CASA’s executive manager Standards, Bill McIntyre, says the internet broadcast is a first for the aviation industry. "No one has ever offered the chance for almost every person in the aviation industry to actively join in detailed work on new safety rules at one conference," Mr McIntyre says.

Cutting edge technology is inclusive.

"This is not just a chance for people on the internet to watch and listen; they will be live players in the discussions through questions and comments. The technology to achieve this has only just started to be used in Australia, and CASA is proud to be a leader in bringing people together on this scale."
