Classic Airborne-Oshkosh 07.25.12: Flight Design, Quicksilver, BendixKing, Rotax

Oshkosh Day Three Coverage -- Part Three Of Five Part Hightower Interview, Chats With Alan Klapmeier and NTSB's Hersman!!!

Looking Back At Oshkosh 2012--Part Three: LSA's and a visit from NTSB Chair Deborah A.P. Hersman topped the news Wednesday. Quicksilver Manufacturing announced in a news release that it had been bought by investors in California, and was becoming Quicksilver Aeronautics.

The new owners, Will Escutia and Daniel Perez, say they will keep the company headquarters in Temecula, CA, and plan to bring new aircraft to market.

Flight Design USA is adding to the number of places where new pilots can be trained. The Connecticut company has a 31-outlet network of representatives and flight schools which will use flight training materials made specifically for Flight Design.

The Rotax 912 iS engine will be equipped with a Digital Engine Control Unit (ECU) developed by Rockwell Collins. The Rockwell system integrated with this engine includes dual fuel injectors per cylinder, dual ignition coils, as well as dual generators.

And NTSB Chair Deborah A.P. Hersman held her first forum at Oshkosh. She talked about several studies undertaken by the board with a focus on improving GA safety.
