Elliott Aviation Receives STC For Universal's UNS-1Espw With WAAS/LPV

System Approved For Citation 650 III, VI and VII Series Aircraft

Elliott Aviation announced Tuesday that the Moline, IL-based business aviation services company has received Supplemental Type Certification (STC) from the FAA for the installation of dual Universal Avionics' UNS-1Espw Flight Management System in Citation 650 III/VI/VII series aircraft.

The installation, conducted at Elliott Aviation's headquarters facility at Quad City International Airport (MLI), includes the latest GPS Wide Area Augmentation System (WAAS) with LP/LPV (lateral precision with vertical guidance) for oceanic, en-route, departure and arrival procedures, non-precision approaches, LNAV/VNAV approaches and LPV approaches.

WAAS approaches can be flown down to minimums of 200-feet and half-mile for FAA published LPV approaches. "The UNS-1Espw Flight Management System greatly reduces pilot workload and makes approaches safer," said Mark Wilken, director of avionics sales for Elliott Aviation. "Elliott Aviation is proud to offer this STC to our list of avionics upgrades that enhance safety and increase the residual value of the aircraft."

Citation III

According to the AOPA, "[w]ith WAAS on board the aircraft, pilots are authorized to fly throughout the United States under instrument flight rules (IFR) without reliance on ground-based navigation aids. Capable of supporting all phases of flight including precision instrument approaches, WAAS is a cost-effective navigation system that general aviation pilots can use to improve safety as well as increased access to airports in all weather conditions."
