Most Affordable EFIS Now Flying On Dozens of Aircraft
Designed for sport
flyers with sport budgets, Dynon has been written up in ANN a
number of times for their amazing little offering, a small
stand-alone EFIS unit that retails for less than $2000. Well, it
appears that a number of others shared our interest. Dynon has told
ANN that over 500 units have already been shipped,
while refinements and upgrades pour forth with increasing
rapidity.
Among the most recent developments at Dynon, there is the
release of the unheated version of the Dynon AOA/Pitot probe and
the release of V1.05 software to support it. The AOA/Pitot probe
completes the original vision for the EFIS-D10 and gives the pilot
complete flight information in a highly usable format all on one
compact display.
Dynon's Gillian D'Ancicco told ANN that a heated version was
considered a strong priority at the company and that aggressive
work continues for both the heated version of the AOA/Pitot probe
and the OAT (outside air temperature) sensor and supporting
software. Pricing for the OAT sensor has not been set at this time,
Gillian promises ANN that they understand the demands of their
market, and that their aim is to keep it all affordable.
The new OAT sensor will require the external compass module
(EDC-D10) that contains the hardware interface and the signal
conditioning needed for the sensor. With the OAT sensor, the
EFIS-D10 will add an INFO type display of OAT, TAS (true airspeed),
and DA (density altitude). Both the heated AOA/Pitot probe and the
OAT option are expected to be available late this year. Gillian
alos notes that the Dynon web site has been updated to
include a revised FAQ, new pictures of the EFIS displays and
dimensions of the AOA/pitot probe.
There are other products in the pipeline at Dynon... so keep
your eyes peeled for additional announcements around
springtime.
