New Mexico Aviation Aerospace Association Calls Career Fair A Success

Over 1,500 Attended The Event

The New Mexico Aviation Aerospace Association (NMAAA) reports that its September 18 career fair was a great success. The program, which was conducted in conjunction with the event held at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM.

The event was opened by New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez. Overall, the NMAAA says they had 30 exhibits in the hangar, 28 aircraft on the ramp, 8 military displays, 27 schools represented by 1,128 students and a total participation with parents, advisors and military of 1,586.

The NMAAA says it plans to move the career fair concept around the state, exposing young adults along with middle school and high school students to civilian aviation and military aviation. As the concept is refined, the New Mexico Aviation and Aerospace Association plans to offer a template which other state aviation trade associations can use in conjunction with their state Air Guard units.

The NMAAA says its vision is to ensure the constant growth of New Mexico’s aviation and aerospace sectors.  Membership includes representation from federal agencies, academic institutions, the military, non-profit and for-profit organizations as well as individuals. There are 61 public-use airports in the state, serving 5,053 pilots and 4,075 general aviation aircraft. According to the 2009 New Mexico Airport System Plan Update, aviation in New Mexico supports 48,795 jobs and generates $1.3 billion in payroll.
