Four Crewmen Fatally Injured In Training Accident

Air Force Col. John McMullen said Thursday the four had not yet been identified pending notification of relatives.

The Associated Press reports that the accident occurred about 1814 local time during practice for an upcoming air show. The aircraft was attached to the 3rd Wing based at Elmendorf, which is near Anchorage, AK. An Anchorage fireman said he saw the fireball, which reportedly rose several hundred feet into the air, out of the corner of his eye while eating diner at the station.

"We lost four members of our Arctic Warrior family and it's a loss felt across our entire joint installation," McMullen said in a statement, which referred both to Elmendorf and Fort Richardson, the adjacent Army base.
