Aviation Labor Disagreement May Disrupt Landings In Israel

Monday May Be Day To Avoid Israeli Airports

It may be a bumpy day for Israeli aviation Monday, according to Haaretz news service, as Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) employees protest recent administration structural changes by disrupting aviation traffic, including landings.

CAA employees decided on Sunday to begin protests, which may result in a total strike. They claim changes were made by management without their involvement.

Their action means that planes not on the flight schedule will not be allowed to land; extra flights and charters added to the flight plan will therefore be unable to land in Israel Monday.

In addition on Monday, CAA employees will not conduct periodic examination on planes, which may see some aircraft unable to renew flight licenses; aviation industry projects may be disrupted if they require approval of the CAA; and pilot and technician exams will not be administered.

At issue for workers are management changes that hurt their professional status a well as their pocketbooks, including the recent outsourcing for new jobs before discussing if first with CAA employees or the Histadrut Labor Federation.
