Turkish 737 Goes Off The Runway In Germany

Slides 100 Meters, No One Injured

For the second time in just over two weeks, a Boeing 737 has slid off the runway during landing. This time, an airliner flying for Turkish Airlines left the runway at Germany's Dusseldorf Airport Sunday, and slid 100 meters before coming to rest in a security zone at the end of the runway.

No one was injured in the accident, and investigators still don't know what caused the 737, which was flying from Istanbul, to leave the runway -- nor is it not known if weather may have played a role in the accident.

This incident comes eleven days after a Southwest Airlines 737-700 skidded off the runway at Chicago's Midway Airport during a snowstorm, colliding with two cars and, sadly, killing a young passenger in one of them.

Investigators have yet to rule on a definitive cause of that accident, either. As has been extensively reported in Aero-News, such factors as procedural error, mechanical factors and a runway slickened by snow may have all played a part in the Chicago mishap.
