TSO Approval Granted for Universal Avionics’ UniLink UL-800/801

Communications Management Unit Being Delivered To Customers

The FAA has granted TSO approval for Universal Avionics’ third generation Airborne Datalink System, UniLink UL-800/801 Communications Management Unit (CMU). Universal Avionics is pleased to report that delivery of UL-800/801 units has begun.

UniLink UL-800/801 Airborne Datalink features:

  • FANS 1/A+ Compliance
  • Controller Pilot Data Link Communications Capability (CPDLC)
  • Multiple Media Routing
  • Full ACARS/CMU Functionality
  • ADS-C Auto Position Reporting
  • Hi-Res Weather Graphics
  • Loadable Custom Database Capability
  • DO-178B Level C Compliant
  • CNS/ATM Provisioned, including EUROCONTROL’s Link 2000+ Programme
  • CV/FDR Data Recording Output
  • Internal VHF Datalink Radio (For UL-801 models)
  • SATCOM Interface Capability

The UniLink provides superior operations and control of digital communications between the pilot and Air Traffic Controller (ATC) in the exceedingly complex Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) Air Traffic Management (ATM) environment. The UL-800/801 provides an opportunity to take full advantage of the safety and efficiency benefits that advanced datalink capabilities offer.

The UL-800/801 interfaces with Universal Avionics’ current FMS product line with either 4” or 5” Control Display Units. For increased versatility, UL-801 includes an internal VHF Data Radio (VDR). The UL-801’s internal VDR saves weight, space, and the installation of an external VDR. The UL-801 may transmit and receive data via VDR or SATCOM depending upon geographic location, reducing operational costs substantially.
