AeroSports Update: Big Bend Balloon Bash

The Skies Will Be Filled With Colorful Balloons Over Alpine Texas On Labor Day Weekend, And All Are Welcome For This Free Event

Since 1987, the Big Bend Balloon Bash has been held at the Alpine-Casparis Airport in Alpine, Texas. Activities for this event start on Saturday, August 30th, and run through Labor Day. The neat thing about the Big Bend Balloon Bash is that it is free for everyone to attend.

The gates will open at 7 AM each day and the balloon flying for the mornings will run until approximately 10 AM. The actual amount of balloon flying depends on the wind, and the location of Alpine with its surrounding mountains provide some protection against strong winds. This makes it a perfect location to outsmart the gusty winds of West Texas.

About 25 balloons are planned to participate in the activities and when the balloons are not flying other events are scheduled in Alpine and the surrounding area to coincide with the Balloon Bash. On Sunday evening at 8 PM a “balloon concert” is held for the entertainment of all.

This event has been a success for many years and commonly draws between 3,000 and 5,000 people both from the local area and out of town. The Big Bend Balloon Bash website furnishes detailed information on event scheduling, lodging, and other area activities.
