SpaceX Will Unveil Manned Dragon Spacecraft Tonight

Event Planned For 10 PM EDT

SpaceX will unveil the crewed version of the Dragon spacecraft ... designated Dragon V2 ... at an event at its Hawthorne, CA headquarters Thursday night.

The event is planned for 7 pm Pacific time ... or 10 pm Eastern.

IO9 reports that, according to SpaceX, Dragon Version 2 will be able to ferry as many as seven astronauts back and forth between ISS. That matches the crew capacity of NASA's shuttle.

The crewed version is also fitted with SuperDraco Thruster launch abort engines that can not only help protect the crew in the event of a launch emergency, but could be used in the future to allow the spacecraft to make propulsive landings on Earth, the Moon, or other destinations in space.

The unveiling event is by invitation only, but it will be webcast live by the company.
