SportAir Workshops Return to Lakeland

Aircraft Building Clinics Help Cut to the Chase at EAA's Home Base

Those looking to build or restore an aircraft can avail themselves of the upcoming 2-day SportAir Workshop courses at Lakeland, Florida.

During the EAA course, attendees will pick up all the basics and essentials covering modules like Electrical Systems & Avionics, Sheet Metal Basics, and Fiberglass Techniques for RV Aircraft. To better accommodate students, two separate dates have been established, from February 4-5 and 11-12.

Electrical Systems & Avionics will run students through proper soldering techniques, connector installations, multi-pin connections and more. Additional time will be spent on common problem areas encountered in electrical system installation, helping cut out irritating troubleshooting in the future.

Sheet Metal Basics will allow students to learn "all aspects of sheet metal work with lecture, two detailed projects, and lots of hands-on practice", with tools provided to practice hands-on learning. For those building themselves a sheet metal aircraft the course should more than pay for itself with time saved.

Fiberglass Techniques For Rv Aircraft is the only course available for one session, being held on the February 4th course date. Attendees will develop skills required to finish the composite parts supplied by kit manufacturers like Van's, with another hands-on component to build confidence. By the end, students should feel fairly comfortable working with composites, while being able to create fairings or make repairs to composite molded parts.

Enrollment is available via the EAA, with SportAir Signature Courses available in recorded form with special member discounts.
