National Transportation Safety Board investigators and administrators—to include Chairperson Jennifer Homendy (pictured) and Member Michael Graham—will attend the EAA’s AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wisconsin for purpose of meeting the public and staging a series of safety presentations.

“We look for every opportunity to advocate for aviation safety,” Homendy stated. “This event, the nation’s largest gathering of aviation enthusiasts, is a fantastic opportunity to share our safety recommendations,”

The presentations with which the NTSB plans to edify the flying public are based on lessons gleaned from recent accident investigations and will examine topics such as: inflight loss-of-control, aviation weather, flight instruction, managing aeromedical risks, air traffic control communications, and airplane occupant protection systems.

While onsite, NTSB air-safety investigators will deliver the agency’s Fly Like a Pro safety presentation series, which delves into the subtleties and stresses the paramountcy of pilot professionalism. The Fly Like a Pro series encourages aviators to prioritize safety and strive to continuously improve their aeronautical knowledge and proficiency.

In addition, on 28 July, NTSB chief data scientist Dr. Loren Groff will provide instruction and guidance in the use of the agency’s CAROL (Case Analysis and Reporting Online) aviation accident database. Dr. Groff will also solicit feedback from database users with an eye toward improving the system’s functionality.

The investigators and administrative personnel presenting will also be staffing the NTSB exhibit booth in the Federal Pavilion, located in Exhibit Hangar D on the EAA AirVenture grounds, to meet the public and answer questions about investigations and processes, the agency mission, and careers at the NTSB.

Excepting the interval lost to COVID-19 restrictions, the NTSB has participated in every AirVenture event since 1995.
