The Sun 'n Fun Aerospace Expo is naming current Lakeland Airport manager, Gene Conrad, to succeed John 'Lites' Leenhouts... who is going to be a TOUGH act to follow. Late last year, Leenhouts announced his intention to retire and the Exec Search got underway in earnest... but while a massive number of qualifications had to be researched and met, Gene is a local. Airborne Tactical Advantage Company Pilot Ejects Safety, Fighter Goes Down in Empty Desert

A French Mirage F1 crashed near Buckeye, Arizona while being flown under contract by Airborne Tactical Advantage Company (ATAC). The pilot ejected safely, with no serious injuries reported. The crash occurred in a desert field in the wide open land abutting a retirement community. Luckily for the unnamed F1 pilot, a land surveyor happened to be working in the vicinity who watched the plane go down. Aquiline Sees Increasing Adoption of Drone Flight Classes in University Catalogs

Houghton College, a Christian New York liberal arts and science school, has joined hands with Aquiline Drones to offer its UAV pilot courses in its course curriculum. For now, the deal is set to last 5 years, offering online, instructor-guided drone pilot training to future and current students. Aquiline courses will prepare students to take and pass the licensed drone pilot FAA exam. The company takes a slightly different tack to drone education, including AI assisted training sessions and adding an individual flight training component with hands-on flight experience.

NTSB Prelim: DeHavilland Tiger Moth DH 82A

About 20 Minutes Into The Pleasure Flight The Engine Began To Run Rough

On January 23, 2022, about 1728 central standard time, a de Havilland Tiger Moth DH-82A, N5300, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident near Lampasas, Texas. The pilot and passenger received minor injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part91 personal flight. The pilot reported that about 20 minutes into the pleasure flight the engine began to run rough and he immediately turned the airplane back toward the departure airport, checked that the fuel was on, mixture was rich, and the throttle was open.
