Powered Parachute Tangles With Power Lines In Utah

Power Outage From Accident Lasted An Hour, Pilot Uninjured

A pilot attempting a takeoff with a powered parachute reportedly tangled with some power lines in at Mount Ogden Park in Ogden, UT, resulting in an hour-long power outage which led to traffic and bus delays.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that first responders found the parachutist uninjured, but the fire department said on Twitter that a small grass fire had been sparked near the Mount Ogden Golf Course. The fire was quickly extinguished.

The accident caused about 8,700 customers of Rocky Mountain Power to lose their electric service, which caused traffic lights to go out on US highway 98. The traffic tie-ups caused lengthy delays in the city's bus service, according to the Utah Transit Authority.

Two other powered parachute pilots landed safely.
