Two Fatally Injured In Utah Accident

Plane Failed To Return To Airport As Expected

The wreckage of a Carbon Cub which had been missing overnight was located Monday morning in northern San Juan County, UT. The two people on board the airplane were fatally injured in the accident.

The San Juan County Sheriff's Office posted a notice on Facebook indicating that the Grand County, UT Sheriff's Office Dispatch was notified of an overdue plane with two individuals on board. The aircraft left Moab, Utah at approximately 8:00 a.m. Sunday and was expected back by noon, but did not return.

At just before 8:00 Monday morning, an aircraft matching the description of the missing plane was located on the northern end of San Juan County. Department of Public Safety personnel hiked to the airplane and confirmed the two individuals on board were fatally injured. They were identified as Moab resident Kevin Carroll, 53, and Lindon resident Jay Camberlango, 42.

Volunteers from the Civil Air Patrol assisted in the search, which was initiated when the plane was reported overdue Sunday afternoon, according to the Salt Lake Tribune, and ended their efforts when it got dark. A Department of Public Safety helicopter also assisted in the search.

FAA records indicate that the CubCrafters Carbon Cub was registered to Carroll Drilling LLC of Moab, UT. The FAA had issued an airworthiness certificate for the amateur-built airplane in August, 2017.
