Flight Attendant Union Encouraged By President's TPP Policy

Urges Action On Global Aviation Agreements

The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA, AFL-CIO (AFA) has released a statement supporting President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from the negotiating process of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Sara Nelson, International President of AFA, said in the statement that formally withdrawing from the TPP is the right move for working people and their families in this country.

"President Trump has repeatedly stated that his guiding principle will be to put American jobs first. We encourage the Trump Administration to enforce Open Skies agreements that promised to maintain and increase opportunities for aviation workers," Nelson said. "Attention to the pending Norwegian Air International case is the place to start. We look forward to working with President Trump on this critical jobs issue."

AFA members stood together in a massive five-year campaign with affiliated labor and a broad coalition across the country to put the dangers of the TPP at the forefront of national discussion. President Trump made this a key issue of his campaign, and thanks to the voices of American labor the TPP was stopped last fall because it did not have majority support in Congress. President Trump put the final period on that sentence.
