Take A Powder: Hazmat Crews Clear Cargo Plane

But This Powder CAUSED Headaches

Authorities in Rome, NY, were worried at first. They'd found a white powder in a bag on board a McDonnell Douglas DC-10 cargo plane being serviced at the Griffiss Business and Technology Park. In fact, they were worried to the point where they sent in a couple of Oneida County Hazmat team members dressed in moon suits to check it out. They did. It was aspirin.

Workers at Empire Air Center found the powdery substance as they were performing maintenance on the DC-10. The powder was carefully removed by the Hazmat team, isolated and sent to the Utica, NY, Fire Department lab for testing. In the meantime, the plane and the hangar it was in were quarantined -- just in case.

Local news reports didn't indicate the aircraft owner or anything about its last flight before undergoing maintenance.
