Ron Madler Awarded Boeing A.D. Welliver Faculty Fellowship

Embry-Riddle Professor To Join Boeing Satellite Systems

Ronald Madler, associate professor and chair of aerospace engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, has been selected for the Boeing Company's A.D. Welliver Faculty Summer Fellowship for 2004. Madler, who teaches at the university's Prescott, Ariz., campus, is one of only nine university professors nationwide who were honored with the prestigious award by Boeing. Madler will complete his six-week fellowship at Boeing Satellite Systems in Southern California.

Boeing created the fellowship program to expose faculty to the realities of the industrial workplace and engineering practice by letting them "look over the shoulder" of working engineers and professionals at several technical, business, and management levels. The company hopes to influence undergraduate education in ways that will better prepare graduates for the practice of engineering and other professional positions in global industrial companies

"Working with Boeing on these systems will give me the resources to improve the student experience," says Madler, who teaches the Spacecraft Preliminary Design course at Embry-Riddle and has also conducted research on the problem of space debris. "The Welliver Faculty Fellowship program will allow me to bring up-to-date industry information directly into the classroom."
