Bad News: Door Blows Open on Sen. Schumer's Plane

Senator Wasn't Injured

Again demonstrating the fallacy of the 'Goldfinger syndrome,' in which a bullet hole in an airplane will cause passengers to be sucked out, the gun lobby's favorite senator, Charles Schumer (D-NY), told of his Tuesday morning flight: "There wasn't any feeling that you were going to be sucked out of the plane, but suddenly, we had snow blowing into the airplane."

The door blew open for as-yet unknown reasons, and remained open for the fifteen minutes or so that it took the pilot to get on the ground. The flight plan, from New York to Binghamton, was dutifully revised, as the plane landed in Buffalo for repairs.

Andy Katzman, one of the senators' aides, who was actually sitting next to the door, was also uninjured.

The Associated Press reported the incident; perhaps the pilot didn't. The FAA hasn't received word, yet, our friends at the New York FAA press office told us. therefore, we're still uncertain as to the make/model of the aircraft, and the aircraft's owner/operator.
