John Moody Released From Hospital

"Father Of Ultralight Aviation" Still Has Long Recovery Ahead

Our friend, Larry Garner, has faithfully been keeping tabs on John Moody, often called the "Father of Ultralight Aviation." Moody was critically injured last month when his ultralight went down near Augusta (GA). Here's Larry's most recent correspondence:

I'm happy to announce that John Moody has been released from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. John was scheduled to get out of the hospital on Sunday but remained here for more care and more surgeries. Arrangements had been made for a hospital bed to be delivered to the house loaned by Gary Ward and a wheelchair had been located for him to use.

John, still unable to walk, at least would be able to get around on his own - limited but mobile. Doctors at MCG contacted doctors in Tampa (much closer to John's home), making it possible for them to take over his care, so John got to go home for real. Augusta Aviation flew John and Vickie to Tampa late Sunday with one of their son's making the return trip to drive their van home. Vickie called me late Saturday, again expressing her gratitude for all of the assistance, visitation and well wishes from everyone in the Augusta area.

John has a long way to go -- at least four more surgery's and possibly years of therapy, just to walk. That, of course, doesn't take into account the mounting hospital bills. Yes, John says that he will fly his powered glider again. He compares it to getting back on the horse after falling off (that's the spirit, John). We wish him well and look forward to seeing his show again.
