Cliff Diver Leaps From Helo In Publicity Stunt

Jumps Into The Hudson River Near The Statue Of Liberty

Notwithstanding the advisability of swimming in the Hudson River ... a Colombian cliff diver leaped from a helicopter hovering a reported 75 feet over the river into the water as a promotional stunt for the Red Bull cliff diving World Championships planned for Sunday in Boston.

In the video, posted in several places on the Internet including by television station WPIX in New York and on YouTube, diver Orlando Duque can be seen first inside the helicopter, and then diving into the river with Lady Liberty in the background. He reportedly hit the water at about 50 miles per hour.

According to Red Bull, the cliff diving event will be held August 25th, with divers leaping into Boston Harbor from the roof of the ICA Building.

We're not so sure about the advisability of swimming in Boston Harbor, either.
