The event is being co-ordinated in the UK by Aviation Without Borders (AWB) in close co-operation with its sister organisation in Germany, LOG (Luftfahrt ohne Grenzen - Wings of Help).

Many millions of moviegoers have seen "the old lady" in action in the 2004 film "Aviator" where Leonardo DiCaprio flew her over Los Angeles and then landed her by the seashore.  This amphibious aircraft has explored and surveyed many of the world's continents and oceans.
