G-IV Down In France, Three U.S. Citizens Fatally Injured

Airplane Split When It Impacted The Ground

French authorities say a Gulfstream G-IV aircraft on a flight from Nice to Castellet Airport went down during its landing attempt Friday, fatally injuring all three on board.

They were reportedly two men, aged 24 and 62, and a 30-year-old woman. All are thought to be U.S. citizens.

According to a report appearing in the olnline version of the UK newspaper The Mail, the bizjet split into two parts after it impacted the ground. The main cabin reportedly caught fire on the runway, but the nose of the airplane narrowly missed a hotel and skidded into a nearby lake.

The Castellet International Airport was built in 1962 by a French businessman and is said to be the largest private airport on the French Riviera. It is often used by celebrities as well as business people with homes in the area.
