U.K. Simplifies Drone Code As Holidays Near

Revamped Website Attempts To Make Rules Understandable To All Users

There is an expectation that a lot of ready-to-fly UAVs will be wrapped up for the holiday season, which will mean a lot of new operators wanting to take to the air.

The U.K. CAA is trying to get ahead of that curve by simplifying its drone code and making the information available on its website easier for users to remember.

The rules are broken down into five basic tenets:

-Don't fly near airports or airfields
-Remember to stay below 400ft (120m) and at least 150ft (50m) away from buildings and people
-Observe your drone at all times
-Never fly near aircraft
-Enjoy responsibly

Did you catch that the first letters of each spell out "DRONE"?

The website trustedreviews.com reports that the changes came after the U.K. CAA did some research into people's attitudes about drones and how they are used. The revised code "forms the basis of establishing a responsible attitude toward drone flight amongst consumers, and "help to protect the safety of the wider aviation industry." said CAA Policy Director Tim Johnson.
