Aero-Tyranny 101: DC Restrictions May Get (Much) Worse...

Stand Up and Be Counted...

The rumors have been floating hot and heavy... but it now appears that the long-awaited relaxation of restrictions in the Washington, DC, area may not happen after all--and the death knell that was alluded to in Lee Schiek's impassioned letter, "Requiem for An Airport," may actually be forthcoming for a number of airports and thousands of affected aviators.

The current scuttlebutt says that TSA is going to extend the foolishness of SFAR 94 for at least two more years... and offer additional reinforcement to Bin Laden's attempt to destroy as much of America as he can. The SFAR that restricted so much air traffic around Washington (and decimated the civil liberties of thousands) was set to expire on February 13th... so we expect to hear the worst shortly.

OK... this is bad

But the really troublesome issue is that we think its all about to become a lot worse. We have strong reason to believe that more restrictions are about to be announced and some can only be described as "Un-American."

Some of the measures that have been mentioned (and recently confirmed to us by others in the loop) include the loss of VFR privileges within the BWI Class B area, an expanded radius of control around the Washington area, vertical expansion of controlled airspace, a ban on flight training, possible bans on Part 91 and Part 135 ops... even a 55 NM wide radius of airspace that would be prohibited to most of aviation. Can you imagine that our own government may actually be telling a large part of its citizenry that they can't visit the seat of our own governement? It's WRONG.

Folks... it's out of control

What Bin Laden started, TSA appears intent on finishing. The only way that we are going to be able to fight this nonsense is through AGGRESSIVE and very vocal protest. More important, we have to play the CYA game to a fairly great degree... and the fact that there were at least two "escorts" of GA aircraft out of DC airspace by DC's new Air-Cops does NOT help our case at all.

Write your elected officials-NOW. Let everyone within earshot know that our government is finishing the work started by those who want to destroy our way of life NOW. Start thinking hard about ways in which we can make sure our case is made clear to the rest of our countrymen NOW... be assured that ANN is going to be right in the middle of this and that we will do our best to keep you informed.
