It's Hard Out Here For A Flight Attendant
Most airline pilots and flight attendants have horror stories
about some of the hotel rooms they've had to stay in while on
layover between flights... but this just might be the worst one
ever, if it's true.
It all started when six British Airways stewards and
stewardesses stayed overnight at a New York hotel recently, before
their return leg to the UK.
When they arrived for work the next morning, they said they were
too tired to work... because they were kept awake all night by
prostitutes and pimps... um, working... in adjoining rooms. The
flight was cancelled.
Sky News reports the attendants complained they felt unsafe...
and weren't able to sleep before arriving to work the flight back
to England. Some of the cabin crewmembers even complained that
besides the noise, they couldn't lock their doors... and even that
pimps had tried to gain access to their rooms, forcing them to
construct makeshift barricades.
While the crewmembers said British Airways management was
initially sympathetic to their plight... the airline later reopened
its inquiry into the incident.
"We held an initial safety inquiry and found that fatigue did
not appear to be an issue," said a BA spokeswoman. "Nine other crew
stayed at the same hotel and all reported fit and well for work the
next day."
"An investigation is continuing to find out all the facts," she
added.
That statement prompted the British Airways Stewards and
Stewardesses Association to step in. The cabin crew union said the
six are now facing disciplinary action for alleged misconduct.
